A little history

In the 18th century the Gothic west front was replaced by a neoclassical portico with columns, a pediment and a green dome, designed by Benedetto Alfieri. A green metal spire was set over the crossing in 1895.

Down by the lake, the Jet d'Eau throws water 140 metres into the air. It has stood at its jetty in the harbour since 1891 and is the city's best-known landmark; the set brings it close to the cathedral.

The booklet opens with the full story: key dates, what to look for and where to find it.
