A little history

From 1519 Huldrych Zwingli preached here, making the Grossmünster the cradle of the Swiss Reformation.

After lightning set a tower on fire in 1763, the towers were rebuilt: the octagonal upper storeys and the domed helmets that earned them the nickname “pepper pots” were added between 1781 and 1787. A seated Charlemagne still watches over the Limmat from the south tower.

The booklet opens with the full story: key dates, what to look for and where to find it.
